Given the amount of rolling in the virtual hay that goes on in SL, there is a serious lack of stylin’ cowgirls wandering the grid. Those I do see are usually donning horrible pink-tinted ten-gallon hats that would make Hoss Cartwright cry like a baby and what can most charitably be described as cast-offs from Hee Haw extras’ dressing rooms circa 1975. If there are already sequins on your lapel, there shouldn’t be bling and for the love of god, death before sueded fringe, people.
Since “cowgirl” for me is defined as either Debra Winger or Dolly, I decided to go Urban Cowgirl (given the slider abuse of the bust measurements in SL, Dolly would have been a bit of a slippery slope).

Being a cowgirl is all about the accessories. And I found some fantastic sculpty treasures, starting with these hats by Sarajaska Electricteeth who, as far as I can tell, only sells on SLEX. She offers two hats - the black “Outlaw” and white “Hero” which are incredibly well shaped and textured. They’re fantastic for male or female avies.

Next, I found some boots at SLink that take western wear to the next level. They are the most realistic stamped leather cowboy boots I have yet seen moseyin’ around the metaverse. The patina on the leather texture gives it a “just been shined” look and the shape is chunky, but not overly clumsy or bulky like so many boots in SL.

While I know I could have searched around for spurs and lassos and any number of other items, I chose to hitch my wagon to LaynieWear’s faboo tintable camisoles. These are great multi-layer staples for those fighting EMS and still have a casual style all their own. I almost put a duster over them, but that felt a bit too much. As with all genre wear, my theory with country western is that less is more and these camisoles are great for reining in the cheekier elements of this particular outfit. They come in 4 different fully-tintable styles and are, near as I can discern, only available at the Lemon Island location which is obviously a conspiracy to make me mental (okay, more mental) by forcing me into the mall environment I shun IRL. (***Correction - there are SIX and not four camisoles and they are now at both locations - this is what happens when you blog with a cold***)

BTW - if you’re looking for somewhere to show off your new duds, I highly suggest searching SL Events for Live Music by TallGuy Kidd, Patrick LaSalle, Montian Gilruth, or Skinny Shepherd - most of whom will be playing at the SL Virtual State Fair.
From Their Press Release:
Livestock, homemade pickles, ferris wheel, cotton candy, live music, fireworks….it’s a Virtual State Fair!
This three day event celebrates the launch of a new website, www.extension.org, and coincides with the real life celebration in Washington DC. The Virtual State Fair will be on display at the real life venue, and portions of the real life proceedings will be streamed into the fair.
The new website is the centerpiece of the National eXtension Initiative, bringing the best, most reliable and unbiased information to consumers on a variety of practical topics, including personal finance, gardening, parenting, and disaster preparedness. The website connects consumers with experts from over 70 land-grant universities acrss the USA., offers a searchable database, and an “Ask the Experts” option.
The Virtual State Fair will offer exhibits highlighting topics from the website, as well as amusements, a horseback riding area sponsored by AKK Ranch, livestock provided by Tuber Potato, and 15 hours of live music from Second Life favorites such as Lyndon Heart, Tone Uriza, and Kim Seifert.
After the celebration, the fairgrounds in Second Life will serve as the basis for in-world educational activities to support the eXtension project.
The main gate of the Virtual state Fair is located at Morrill/131/11/24.

This will be a shameless plug for the new sim the SL Library is opening this weekend. Land of Lincoln is dedicated to teaching about the life and times of that great president, Abraham Lincoln. It’s also one of the very first in SL to portray times in the 1860’s. I’ve been heavily involved in the development, because of my longtime study of and love for that time period. It’s also why I’ve been slacking doing reviews lately.
Laynie Link, of LaynieWear, graciously offered to make part of an outfit to give out as freebies on the sim. I asked for an 1860’s Day Dress, and she sure delivered. We agreed I’d do the flexiskirt from her texture.

This is our result. She had such a good time with it, she ended up making the outfit in 4 colors. When I saw the blue, I squeed so loudly she said that one would be mine. So we have this in rose, green, and grey, free for all, on the Welcome Center of Land of Lincoln. I love the lace trims, they also give the illusion of the dropped shoulder seam typical to the period. The top comes on all 3 layers, but the shirt layer is the one that has the ability to make the correct wider sleeves. There are glitch pants, and a system underskirt, as no true Victorian lady shows her limbs!

She kept on and made divine little sculptie parasols to match the dresses. Lovely confections. Those can be bought at her stores. Promenading with the lady here is a gentleman wearing Vincente Shepherd’s, of Gaslights Emporium, Black Brocade Frock Suit for men. Vince is also providing this outfit free to the males visiting our sim. I’m wearing the Miss Eyre hairstyle from Historical Heroines. It’s not quite what I need but as close as it gets in sl so far. I am begging, hair designers! We need the right hairstyles. Usually the lady’s ears were almost covered by her hair as it was pulled back. I have searched in vain for a year now.

On another note, Laynie liked the top so well she turned it into these adorable footie pj’s. One look at the back end and you know why she calls them Ruffle Buttz. Only prim ruffles could make them any cuter. They can be found in her store, if there are any left, for only 100L$ a pair. Who’s having the next pj party?

I’d like to take a moment to welcome our readers to a new regular feature on Linden Lifestyles, where I’ll be taking a look at new and not-so-new but noteworthy men’s clothing and accessories.

New from Raven Pennyfeather of Rfyre: the ‘Wanderer’. This evocative and darkly romantic outfit comes complete with boots and caped coat, and a variety of clothing layer options (jacket, shirt, open-neck shirt and vest, boot-leg and regular fit trousers).

The textures, which call to mind the scales of some fabulous mythical creature like the basilisk, are stunning and richly detailed, particularly on the flexi cape and skirts, where they have a gorgeous shimmering iridescence. The detailing elsewhere is also excellent; the fleurs de lis on the collar are an especially nice touch, and the simple subtlety of the silver accents against black is elegantly classic.

After my mini-bitchfest about LF Fashions no longer providing SL with the Converse-style sneakers to which we are constitutionally entitled, a bunch of people asked what the next best option is for Converse-style shoes you can still buy. The answer is Kool Kicks from KK Outfitters:

No texture cheating, no gappy prims, no lame laces cop out. These are the full prim real deal. There are both men’s and women’s versions, and they come in both the high top and the low top versions:

There are also 18 different colours to choose from, including the ever-popular camo green. Goes well with all your guns!
And I would just like to note for posterity that while I am wearing the same clothes two days in a row for the first time ever in the history of the blog, I did in fact put clean underpants on my avatar this morning. So I only smell a little.
What? Where did everyone go?!
