Plaid is one of those things you either love passionately or think is the Devil’s design scheme. I fall firmly into the the first camp: show me a nice tartan and my knees go a little bit weak.
One of my very favourite pairs of pants are these black and white sailor pants from Elka Lehane at boing fromage:
The button up waist panels are completely adorable, and the pants come in a pack with regular trousers, capris, and gauchos with prim bells. They’re 127 layers of hand-drawn photoshop goodness.
Phobos makes these great punk plaid pants for men, but in case you didn’t know, all clothes will fit avs of either gender (though pants and shirts are the safest bet - shoes are a disaster.)
I love the colours and the belt detail. They go so well with this Sgt Pepper military style jacket top from Artilleri.
In the skirt department, this saucy little green plaid number from Tart completely won me over:
Yes it has the standard skirt fit problem in the waist, but look! Buckle details! And is comes in four great colours, too.
Slightly less fabulous but a bit more modest and an usual colour is this skirt from Little Rebel:
What top to wear with an orange and blue plaid skirt is a problem I clearly have not yet solved, but never mind - the skirt gets points for the unusual plaid.

There’s no shortage of clothing stores in SL, that’s for sure - sometimes I think the couture quest is what really fuels the SL ecomony, never mind the land prices. But in the glut of clubwear, formals and prim dresses, 1960s style can be hard to come by. Which is a pity, because I love this look - and we all have the virtual body to pull it off.
Attitude Inc. sells a rang of cheap, cheap casual wear and some formals, and it’s admittedly a little hit or miss in there but you can score some cute bargains if you’re willing to look through it all. The first thing I found was this Lava dress, which is (I swear to God) a copy of the orange Halston micro mini my mother got married in back in 1968:
I think it is a fabulous little dress, but what really knocked my socks off were the boots I bought next:
I have been looking for these boots all my virtual life. I have spent thousands of Lindens in pursuit of really good black boots. These boots are only $75L. Go buy them now.
Next into my shopping bag: this retro pantsuit:
The pants are not going to win any texturing awards, but I don’t care - the top is wonderful and the outfit is cute.
We’ve reviewed Sherry’s Serenity before (see the sexy retro baby doll nightie), but SL isn’t exactly flowing over with Go-Go outfits so she’s worth another mention:
This outfit is available in four fab patterns (my favourite, a green and brown print, is lost somewhere in my inventory) and they all come with matching non-prim go-go boots. Sure, this black and white Mod print might look better with the ones I found above, but they’re awfully, awfully cute.

It took me approximately forever to get together with SL designer Callie Cline, but I’m so glad I finally got a great bunch of stuff from Callie Cline at Shivar. Callie sells a large clothing range with an intelligent approach to design; there are perhaps a dozen basic styles, but each style is rendered in many different colours with changes in pattern and detailing.
Take for example this Glitter Baby line, which comes in at least a 15 candy and metallic shades for all you club chicks out there. But it also comes in earthy shades like this brown, which is just fabulous - it’s totally Lara Croft and that is never a bad thing:
Callie also makes a great range of dresses with antique and traditional ethnic influences. This dress is from the Dream range:
I like the gently scalloped neckline and the beading details scattered over the dress. They’re repeated across front and back with well-placed attention to detail:
I’m not usually keen on this style of glove, but it works really well with the gown. Without the gloves, it’s a slightly less Ren, more cocktails kind of outfit. I’m a fan of versatility.
At $300 to $400L a pop, this stuff is not cheap. Fortunately, Callie is a girl who likes her sales, and there’s usually a buy two get one free sale going on (coupons are in the dress boxes). And who can resist a sale?
