Nylon Pinkney goes for Hollywood gold - not with red carpet clothes, but with her directoral debut in three Machima movies now up on YouTube:
They’re all ads for her fantasic camera HUD products (which I own and have been meaning to blog - oh the guilt) at Nylon Outfitters. The Motel (made for her Polaroid camera) is probably the sharpest and best-produced, but Video Camping (for the handycam) has a super cool Blair Witch thing going on and Beautiful (35 mm) actually made me teary. (Shut up, I have PMS.)
Hint: When they start to play, press Pause and let them fully download before resuming play so you get the full uniterrupted commercial experience.

This week saw the release of version 1.10, and with it wave after wave of posts both hazing and praising the new prim creations. The pandemonium started out with Launa Fauna’s staple Flexi Sash, versatile and tintable. Just as tintable as Nephilaine Protagonist’s Portia which features a long wispy scarf. Protagonist was pretty quick to one-up herself with her line of little black flexidresses with style cues drawn from east, west, and everywhere in the middle. The stable of prize-ponies at Simone came out with a flex for every taste, including typically gorgeous gowns, CanCan wear, and just yesterday some fantastic flexi ribbons to tie up your bonnie prim hair. This week was a tremendous success for Ginny Talamasca of Dazzle Haute Couture, with the release of several critically-acclaimed flexi-prim dresses and, shall we say, “delicates”. And we also saw a gorgeous release from Asri of Le Cadre, a beautiful sundress with as many possible looks as it has layers. A less flexible but no less gorgeous outfit was also released by Tuli, for her Lollypop brand. From the Chocolate line, defined as casual meets earthy, Blossom is a cute pairing perfect for the warmer weather.
On the list of flexi things to come, Material Squirrel fans will be glad to hear that Kala Bijoux has a pair of flexi prim wings in the works, though slightly delayed. There’s no wait for those after flexible hair, however. Gurl6 has been releasing style after style, with designer Six Kennedy running the gamut from shorter to short to long to Rapunzel. Even Elikapeka Tiramisu, who swore she wouldn’t indulge the flexiprim demon until a flexi-torus evolved from the mix, caved in within a matter of days, releasing Farfalla and Smooth (along with some non-flex but pro-cute hair as well.) In a move that filled many long-time-readers, never-time-commenters with a healthy dose of kick-yourself-in-the-ass, Elika gave readers who commented that they witnessed her flex-resistance a free Willow pack of Farfalla. Did anyone else tear out their first-life flexi hair when they heard that one?
This week also saw the birth of a super-quirky series of attachments from FlipperPA Peregrine, a theme music system! Something that may go especially well with 2D Sprite avatars, or anyone with a quirky sense of self, these SLoundtracks for your virtual life currently come in four fun packs: ’80s Video Games, Cartoons, Star Wars, and Super Mario Brothers! Best. Jumping. Sounds. Ever!
The social scene saw the first Federated Media Salon in Second Life, a magnetic hotspot event for the movers and shakers, an event primarily for marketing purposes, though most events in one life or another are geared to sell something. Thankfully the good-times are free. And something else attracting more buzz than an unpollenated garden is the use of Machinima to create charming and unique ads to catch the eye of residents and non-residents (the newbies of tomorrow) alike.
For those who didn’t catch it, the latest Secondcast revolves around the holiest of the formal events in a young girl’s second life, the pixel prom! Last but never least of all, PXP is currently featuring flexi-prims galore, as well as a bit of a boot-binge!
P.S. My name’s Iris and I’ll be your Roundup girl. Yeehaw!

If you’re a single gal who likes to go dancing and can’t always scare up a partner, then a nice selection of dance animations are a must-have staple of your inventory. The best place I’ve found to acquire such goodies is Abranimations, where there is a huge supply of animations and animated treats. As an added bonus, their preview features are beyond faboo!
When you enter the store, you’ll find a collection of dance boards along one wall that look like this:
To test drive a dance, simply left-click on the green ball that corresponds with the animation you’d like to try.
Upon doing this, you’ll get a permission request to allow the green ball to animate your avatar. When you click “Yes” the animation will take a second or two to load and then your avatar will boogie down. Once you’ve watched the dance loop, simply click on the little stop sign on the dance board and give the animation a second or two to stop. Purchase is even simpler; you merely right-click and buy. Nearly all the dances can be had for L$150 which is a bargain, indeed.
I have a number of favorites, including the adorable 60’s Groove — a charmingly fun retro go-go dance loop that is just swell!
For a more modern and slightly sexier way to get down, I’m a fan of Club Groove 2, with its sleek poses and completely unladylike bent-knee grind.
The You Go Girl dance is another charmer. A cute little step number, it starts out as a white girl shuffle, gives a few sexy kicks and then turns into a restart of the loop.
Last and in no way least is my favorite - Pulp Groove, so named, I’m sure because it is reminiscent of Vincent and Mia’s Pulp Fiction dance. This hip-wriggling twist is just too much fun not to take utter delight in and it’s a great way to show off your legs. I recommend stockings and short skirts with this one to make a drop-dead luscious impression.
There are dozens of dances available — one to match every venue and mood. So, no more excuses, put on your dancing shoes, head over to Abranimations to buy a couple dances and then come groove with the rest of us. (Read More | Where to Buy)
Like Salome, I am not a PVC fan. Bit also like Salome, I recently found an outfit that had me virtually plunging through the store window to purchase it. Behold the glorious Urban Geisha set from OPIUM. (And yes, the clothes by the delightfully named Alaska Metropolitan are addictive.)
This set comes with absolutely everything the modern geisha needs: three tops, three skirts, shoes and hair with matching chopsticks stuck through (so adorable). But what really sells it are the two perfect accessories that are part of the package - the parasol and the fan, both of which come with appropriate holding animations:
Speaking of animations, the fan flicks back and forth when you stand, and then collapses when you walk. It’s wonderful.
Nobody in my family tree is from anywhere near the orient (unless Leyton Orient counts) and I have no particular desire to be authentic about my Geisha attire, so I prefer to wear the outfit with more conteporary shoes and hair:
This is my favourite top option, because I love corsets and this enemble is very “Mistress may I“? It’s probably a must for any self-respecting Domme’s wardrobe. The length on this skirt is very very sexy, but there’s an above the knee and a mini too.
The entire thing is hand drawn and completely quaity made. Not only is this some of the very best PVC I’ve seen, but the cut, the seams, the alignment, the transparencies… all absolutely perfect. The OPIUM Urban Geisha line also comes in non-PVC, tradtional brocade patterns: red with gold flowers, purple with silver flowers, navy blue with pale pink flowers, and beige with black flowers are all available.
At $750L, this package is not cheap. It is, however worth saving up your Lindens for. You get a lot for your money, and the quaity is worth every penny. You can also buy the outfit in parts from vendors on the wall: skirts, tops and accessories are all there for your Geisha desires.
