Jill in a Box: Free Female Avatars

Filed under: Avatars, Body, Clothing, Freebies, Hair, Outfits, Skins — Sabrina Doolittle @ 6:26 pm

UPDATE: The box has been corrected and all items are now copy/transfer so you can keep one in inventory and pass out unlimited copies. Please pick up an updated V2 box, which also includes a pair of green eyes now, too! Sorry about the confusion.

Like any long-time residents, both Salome and I have been collecting freebies for approximately forever. We always intended to do something with them, but having YAFFB (Yeat Another Freakin’ Freebie Box) just seemed sort of, well, lame.

However, that changed a few months ago. I don’t know when the last time you signed up for an alt account was, but there is a new default Newbie skin designed by Munchflower Zaius available at sign-up, and it is SO MUCH BETTER than the original Ruth Linden skin. It’s not shown to it’s best advantage straight out of inventory, but you can really work some magic with those sliders. It is a very tintable, facially modifiable skin with a lot of cosmetics potential. That is what finally got us excited about putting together a freebie box again, because with a load of help from the gals at Calla Hair, we can finally deliver what we always wanted to: a complete starter avatar in a box.

We’ve put together a free pack with three complete outfits, skin, avatar shape, shoes and accessories. The box and all items in it are full perms so you can give it out to your friends, or just throw it at desperate newbies at random. There are also three hair styles from Calla Hair in four colours each, and they’re free too, although you have to get them seperately as they are copy/mod/no transfer.

Free second life skin, free second life clothing

For the dressier look, there’s a print dress, neck scarf, color change espadrille shoes, and a matching handbag. This is the I’m So Preddy v2 hair, a short bob with full bangs shown in brunette.

Free SL skin and shape

There’s also underwear and two bikinis, because obviously you can’t run around SL if you’re not willing to run around half-naked. The black cherries bikini not shown also has a matching sun hat. The hair is Preddy 1 and 2 in black and red.

Free Second Life hair

For a casual look there’s a tintable tank top with tintable linen trousers and a matching hand bag and flip-flops. There’s also a sheer cami and a pair of jeans, and some system trainers that actually do not suck. The hair is Preddy 2 and 3 in blonde and brunette.

Also included are diamond solitaire earrings, an animation override with a walk and six stands, and a hug attachment because the Calla girls made us include one. (They’re just really friendly like that. It’s so revolting. Please don’t hug me.)

These are not fabulous designer group freebie clothes (though the hair is indeed fabulous). I am allowed to say that because I made some of this stuff myself, with sliders and no transaprencies - because guess what? I cannot make clothes! (This explains why I am not selling clothes, either.)

Anyway, this stuff is intended to allow new players to go shopping not looking like they just fell out of the apple tree, and to learn how to use sliders, shapes, hair and attachments. But you can buy at any age for $0L, so grab a box, have a rummage, and chuck it on any newbies you see who need a little fashion encouragement.

And yes, there is a boy box, and we’ll do that tomorrow. After all, all’s fair in love and shopping.

Where to Buy:

Linden Lifestyles Headquarters
All items free: $0L
Calla (163, 56, 22)

Box items are copy and transfer so you can take one box and give out copies, though some items are no mod.

  2. Wow, three months too late for me, but this box really IS fabulous. I like the skin! Not my kind of clothing but I really have to get the skin, hehe….Thanks for this really great offer!

  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you…. I’m always looking for stuff to toss at my newbie friends… of which I have a lot of since I’m not that long in the whiskers myself. It’s been rather tedious havng to try to find places to direct them to, since they, like me, are lazy, but you’ve made it inifinitely better. Woo hoo!

  4. Love it! :) Thanks Sabrina! *puts on her Noob goggles* Now I’ll be off newbie hunting. :)

  5. YES, yes, yes! What a great idea, practical and very thoughtful, and I love especially that we can hand it out freely. So many new faces in SL—-I am approached many times daily by new people, and this will be a great help. I have some friends who will be thrilled, and I always love to try different skins. Thank you, S, and S!

What do you do in a case like this, though:

[9:24] MystiTool HUD 1.0.18: Entering chat range: Nancy *** (12m)
    [9:24] Nancy ***: hey plzzz
    [9:24] You: hello
    [9:24] Nancy ***: can u give me 200 lindens?
    [9:24] You: you’re kidding, right?
    [9:24] Nancy ***: nope LOL
    [9:25] Nancy ***: y
[9:25] Nancy ***: is it to much?
[9:25] You: do strangers actually give you money? I am really curious
    [9:25] Nancy ***: haahha
    [9:25] Nancy ***: i need a skin
    [9:25] Nancy ***: and i am poor
[9:25] You: i know where there are some awesome free skins, if that will help. NORA put out a nice one last week
    [9:26] Nancy ***: ahahah u r kidding me ?
    [9:26] Nancy ***: u think i will take a free skin?
[9:26] You: beggars can’t be choosers, I guess

Okay, I should not have said that last line. I am usually nicer, but I was shocked at such an attitude.

  9. Speaking of free.. Just a thought how about a entry on Lucky Chairs. Some friends and I have a blast jumping about and trying to find a letter. It is stupid fun but hey we get some great stuff out of it!

    Comment by Bellamy Emms — May 7, 2007 @ 1:24 am

  10. Glad you guys are digging the stuff :) Just as a clarification: The Calla ladies gave me their hair full perms so I could set it out for sale. I forgot to re-name the boxes even though I re-permissioned the items inside and checked them about 30,000 times because I’m nervous like that.

If you bought a hair box today that said (FULL PERMS) and were confused, don’t be. The stuff inside is *not* full perms and never was - I just forgot to change the box name. Fixed now!

    Comment by Sabrina Doolittle — May 7, 2007 @ 5:21 am

  11. When I was a noob I bought EVERY single freebie box, male and female, from pretty much everywhere!! With the full perm ones, there’s a lot of… well.. crap, being circulated and recirculated all over the place. I actually went through some of the boxes (I admit not all) and picked out every single non-crap item… And then picked out the actually good from the non-crap, and put it in a box :) I also made a little freebie scavenger hunt guide in a notecard in there. I’ll be adding you to it, along with a couple of other stores you’ve mentioned (like L&E). I definitely wouldn’t mind more traffic in my store, noobie or no >.>

So nice to see someone else trying to put GOOD freebies out into the world, and gods bless Munch!

    Comment by Siyu Suen — May 7, 2007 @ 8:27 am

  12. This is fantastic. (But is it me, or are the instructions for opening the grey hatbox inside the box?)

Kudos for a great freebie box. Mixing this with other freebies and the occasional bought piece, I’m on my way to SL bliss.

    Comment by Cathryn Cathcart — May 7, 2007 @ 11:45 am

  13. If I could tell you all the amount of fun we had helping put these boxes together, you’d all laugh. I think it started with Sabrina asking me to look at her ass and tell her if it was too big. Then she was naked! And we, of course, looked at her ass. We had a lot of fun with putting things together and tossing random hugs at Bri. She likes it. She just don’t want you all to know. ;)

We love the noobs (having been noobs ourselves) and hope that these boxes help people feel a bit more welcome and like they fit in with the rest of us fashionistas!

  14. [9:26] You: beggars can’t be choosers, I guess

Okay, I should not have said that last line. I am usually nicer, but I was shocked at such an attitude.

Hey, you were completely entitled to say this! For one, there are lots of very nice free skins. Also, if we could get everything for free… I think we wouldn’t have many designers. Earning money for one’s hard work is not a crime.

  15. Thank you so much - I’m a mentor and have been helping someone who’s been calling me her info goddess (how can a person resist that?) - just today she was asking for hair - I only had really sucky freebies - this is perfect!

    Comment by Moxie Grumby — May 8, 2007 @ 5:14 am

  16. Great idea - and super items. I already had the freebie Calla hair and oh yes, I love it.

  17. Leaving a note to say thank you for the lovely box. I especially loved both the shape and the skin which went great with the free hair that I received from Diversity. Thanks again for taking the time to do this. It makes a difference when a girl feels she looks good. :)

    Comment by Lace Whitfield — May 9, 2007 @ 1:06 am

  18. Lace, you and everyone else are very welcome. That’s exactly what we hoped - that people could use it to feel more finished and a little more confident about their appearance so you can go out there and do whatever SL has in store for you!

    Comment by Sabrina Doolittle — May 9, 2007 @ 2:46 am

  19. Thank you very much!

  24. I am a complete noob. I downloaded the freebies but don’t have a clue how to use them. When I click Attach, it attached the box to me, not the items inside. I’m obviously doing something wrong! Thanks.

  25. Wow, now these are some truly great freebies!

    Comment by Chrischun Fassbinder — October 4, 2007 @ 9:21 pm

  26. Alright, so, I’ve gotten the box, I love what I think is inside the box but there is a problem, I can’t get it open. I know there are instructions on opening the box inside the box, but I can’t get to them.
It makes me sad, very very sad.

Can someone help me?!?! Thank you!

    Comment by Aphrodie Thespian — June 2, 2008 @ 11:24 am

  31. When you get the box, you will find instructions in your inventory on how to open the box. You can’t get anything out of inventory until you follow those instructions.
