Ruth-Be-Gone (Dougal Jacobs Is My Hero)

Filed under: Editorial, Freebies — Salome Strangelove @ 11:24 pm

Tired of friends dropping photos on you in public venues when you show up Ruthed? Are your hindquarters sore from digging all your attachments out of your bum every day? Well, ladies and germs - the solution is here!

The Autoderuth Tool by Dougal Jacobs is a free-to-copy-and-distribute gift to the grid, but specifically to us vain fashion junkies in general. It’s a wearable HUD that puts a very unobtrusive round white button on the bottom-left of your display.

deruth hud

When you click the button or type “/1deruth” it gives your avatar a little launch into the sky and magically (I’m sure there’s technical science and code involved, but I’m going with magic, okay?) resets your shape and avatar without reloading SL. Your avatar returns to the ground unharmed and in ideal appearance after said launch.

Dougal Jacobs. Women of SL bow before you. And, I imagine, quite a few men as well.

You can pick up the current version (1.3) at the Linden Lifestyles Headquarters. Look for this sign:

They’ve been placed just below our Jack- and Jill-In-the-Box signs. So scurry, grab one, and give them to all your friends.

May Ruth RIP.

  1. I received a copy of this a few days ago but haven’t been in world long enough to try it. Glad to know it works though.

(And by glad I mean freaking ecstatic, thank you Dougal!)

  2. Oh Happy Day! I’ve seen myself with spotty patches of hair and coal black sockets for eyes. Hate to think what I looked like to others.

  3. I never know if I should mention Ruthing to acquaintances or not, because I don’t know if it’s just my system, and nobody else is seeing the same effect. It’s pretty funny to be watching a Manly Man wander around with breasts and big butt, though….

  4. I received this from my boyfriend about 5 months ago… it was then that I knew he was the man for me!

  5. I’m now making this part of my daily routine, like brushing my teeth. An ounce of prevention… plus, I never know I’m ruthed unless some kind soul tells me.
One caution: I tried this inside my house, which has one of the few roofs in sl. I shot right up through. When I landed , tho, it was on top of the roof. Strangely enough, I didn’t have a headache from busting through.

  6. This would be great!! …if it worked for me properly. Maybe it’s something I’m doing wrong, though I doubt it, it’s only one button and I’m clicking it. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that was incorrect. When I do click it though I usually orbit up into the air. At which point, I don’t care who is ruthed, or what attachments are in my ass… I just want to be safely on the ground again.

  7. Argent Stonecutter sells a flight assist feather that also includes a de-Ruthing feature. It’s called Cyberflight 1.4, and it is very inexpensive. Works great!

  8. I thought this was only a client-side effect i.e. click and you will look de-Ruthed on your screen but may still looked Ruthed to everyone else. Is that the case? Does anyone know? Ty in advance.

  9. The bright white ball is larger than the Mysti Tool, so I changed the opacity and it’s hardly noticeable. Big *grin*. Wonderful, generous man, Dougal.

  11. It doesn’t seem to work for me, I get launched in the air yet all my attachments are still stuck up my butt :(
