Cowgirl Bebop at the Virtual State Fair

Filed under: Accessories, Costume, Men, Outfits, Shoes, Tops — Salome Strangelove @ 1:58 pm

Given the amount of rolling in the virtual hay that goes on in SL, there is a serious lack of stylin’ cowgirls wandering the grid. Those I do see are usually donning horrible pink-tinted ten-gallon hats that would make Hoss Cartwright cry like a baby and what can most charitably be described as cast-offs from Hee Haw extras’ dressing rooms circa 1975. If there are already sequins on your lapel, there shouldn’t be bling and for the love of god, death before sueded fringe, people.

Since “cowgirl” for me is defined as either Debra Winger or Dolly, I decided to go Urban Cowgirl (given the slider abuse of the bust measurements in SL, Dolly would have been a bit of a slippery slope).

Being a cowgirl is all about the accessories. And I found some fantastic sculpty treasures, starting with these hats by Sarajaska Electricteeth who, as far as I can tell, only sells on SLEX. She offers two hats - the black “Outlaw” and white “Hero” which are incredibly well shaped and textured. They’re fantastic for male or female avies.

Next, I found some boots at SLink that take western wear to the next level. They are the most realistic stamped leather cowboy boots I have yet seen moseyin’ around the metaverse. The patina on the leather texture gives it a “just been shined” look and the shape is chunky, but not overly clumsy or bulky like so many boots in SL.

While I know I could have searched around for spurs and lassos and any number of other items, I chose to hitch my wagon to LaynieWear’s faboo tintable camisoles. These are great multi-layer staples for those fighting EMS and still have a casual style all their own. I almost put a duster over them, but that felt a bit too much. As with all genre wear, my theory with country western is that less is more and these camisoles are great for reining in the cheekier elements of this particular outfit. They come in 4 different fully-tintable styles and are, near as I can discern, only available at the Lemon Island location which is obviously a conspiracy to make me mental (okay, more mental) by forcing me into the mall environment I shun IRL. (***Correction - there are SIX and not four camisoles and they are now at both locations - this is what happens when you blog with a cold***)

BTW - if you’re looking for somewhere to show off your new duds, I highly suggest searching SL Events for Live Music by TallGuy Kidd, Patrick LaSalle, Montian Gilruth, or Skinny Shepherd - most of whom will be playing at the SL Virtual State Fair.

From Their Press Release:

Livestock, homemade pickles, ferris wheel, cotton candy, live music, fireworks….it’s a Virtual State Fair!

This three day event celebrates the launch of a new website, www.extension.org, and coincides with the real life celebration in Washington DC. The Virtual State Fair will be on display at the real life venue, and portions of the real life proceedings will be streamed into the fair.

The new website is the centerpiece of the National eXtension Initiative, bringing the best, most reliable and unbiased information to consumers on a variety of practical topics, including personal finance, gardening, parenting, and disaster preparedness. The website connects consumers with experts from over 70 land-grant universities acrss the USA., offers a searchable database, and an “Ask the Experts” option.

The Virtual State Fair will offer exhibits highlighting topics from the website, as well as amusements, a horseback riding area sponsored by AKK Ranch, livestock provided by Tuber Potato, and 15 hours of live music from Second Life favorites such as Lyndon Heart, Tone Uriza, and Kim Seifert.

After the celebration, the fairgrounds in Second Life will serve as the basis for in-world educational activities to support the eXtension project.

The main gate of the Virtual state Fair is located at Morrill/131/11/24.

  3. You know I’ve always fancied trying a stetson, but the ones I’ve seen so far had badges or patterns and I tend to prefer plain, so these are ideal!
    Love the black one:)
